The Top 10 Mountains in Malaysia :
- Mount Kinabalu ( Sabah )
- The highest mountain in Malaysia and the 20th tallest in the World. Mainly because of the biological diversity the mountain is listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- From the summit you will have the best view of the rising sun, and when you walk down, you can see several small villages. With good weather you will even be able to see Sabah's biggest city, Kota Kinabalu, at gret distance.

3. Raya Mountain ( Langkawi )
- Gunung Raya is the highest mountain in Langkawi with an altitude of 881 meters. It is located in central Langkawi and has the sprawling Gunung Raya Golf Course at the base. The mountain is covered with dense rainforest which is full of amazing flora & fauna. The forest reserve spreads over an area of over 5000 hectares.
- There are two ways you can approach the peak of Gunung Raya. You can either drive or trek.
- Easiest is to take a rental car or a taxi. You will need to take the narrow winding road Jalan Gunung Raya that starts from a junction with Jalan Ulu Melaka. The road to the peak goes through a dense forest, however the drive is easy as the gradient is not too steep. But watch out for the cars coming from the other side, particularly during the turns. It takes about 25 to 30 minutes to reach the peak by car from the foot hill. Taxis usually take RM60 one way from Pantai Cenang or Kuah.
- However if you like to trek, there are well known operators who organize nature tours and offer great Trek to explore Gunung Raya rainforest. This is a soft trek. Treks are timed in such a way that you get to see the wildlife during daytime or after dark. In the evening, you can see some unique & amazing nocturnal animals in the rainforest like the flying fox and flying squirrels.
4. Brinchang Mountain ( Cameron Highlands )
- The highest mountain in the Cameron Highlands area that can be accessed by car. It is situated at the Perak-Pahang border in Malaysia. It is one of the mountains in Malaysia where its summit can be reached by road. Due to easy accessibility, this mountain enjoys many visitors all year round.
- This mountain enjoys an easy road access all the way to the summit. In fact, the road leading to the summit of this mountain is also the highest road in Peninsular Malaysia.
- There is also a micro-station installation at the top of this mountain.The observation tower at the summit enables tourists to enjoy the panoramic view of Titiwangsa Mountains from the summit.
5. Mat Cincang Mountain ( Langkawi )
- Gunung Mat Cincang is probably Langkawi’s best-known mountain, aside from its neighbour Gunung Raya. At 850m high, it is the second highest mountain in Langkawi and offers some pretty spectacular views of the island. It is home to the famous cable car that carries passengers 709m above sea level to the apex.
- Besides enjoying the spectacular views of the forested and craggy sides of Mount Cincang, on a clear day you can see all the way to the mainland and southwest Thailand. 6. Mount Santubong ( Kuching )
- Mount Santubong (Malay: Gunung Santubong) is a mountain in the Malaysian state of Sarawak. It is located about 35 km north of the state capital Kuching.
7. Mount Lambak ( Kluang )
- Mount Lambak (Malay: Gunung Lambak) is a small mountain in Kluang District, Johor, Malaysia. The summit is 510 m above sea level.
- It has been developed as a recreational and tourist attraction called Mount Lambak Recreational Forest. Pathways and wooden bridges make it relatively easy to climb to the summit, and a picnic spot at the base of the mountain has car parking, benches, a small children's playground and toilets.There is also chalet accommodation, camping facilities and a swimming pool.
8. Mountain Ophir / Gunung Ledang ( Melaka )
- A mountain situated in the Gunung Ledang National Park located in Tangkak District, Johor, Malaysia. The summit is located between the border of Muar and Malacca.
- Along the way, there are spots where one can pitch their tents and enjoy their nights. Visitors can also have their picnics as well as pitch their tents at the base of the mountain.
9. Mount Tahan ( Pahang )
- Mount Tahan, at 2,187 m, is the highest point in Peninsular Malaysia. It is located within the Taman Negara national forest, in the state of Pahang. The mountain is part of the Tahan Range in the Tenasserim Hills and is popular with local climbers.
- In the Malay language, ‘gunung’ means ‘mountain’, while ‘tahan’ means ‘endure’. Thus, the name of the mountain suggests that a certain level of physical endurance is required to conquer it. Gunung Tahan is considered by many to be one of the toughest treks in Peninsular Malaysia.
- There are three trails to the summit, commonly referred to as:
- 1) Kuala Tahan-Kuala Tahan
- 2) Merapoh-Kuala Tahan or Kuala Tahan-Merapoh
- 3) Merapoh-Merapoh
- Mount Tahan can be very cold in night.
10. Mount Jerai ( Kedah )
- Mount Jerai, formerly Kedah Peak, is a mountain in Kedah, Malaysia with the height of 3,854 feet. Within Kedah itself, the mountain stands at the border of Kuala Muda and Yan districts.
- The mountain is a massive limestone outcrop and is a lone feature from the surrounding geography of the area.
